Hanieh was born in Iran and raised in different countries. Due to her parent’s adventurous lifestyle, she became acquainted with people from all walks of life. Hanieh is a huge food enthusiast and she expresses herself through the food she makes. She is currently residing in Turkey. Hanieh joined Istanbul&I as the newsletter editor back in 2021. In her free time, she likes to read, paint, make ceramics, try new cuisines, and develop recipes in her kitchen.
Here is her answer to “Why do you volunteer at Istanbul&I?”
Volunteering has been a big part of my adolescent life. It has always helped me become more familiar with my community and find like-minded friends, regardless of where I lived. I always want to play an active role in ameliorating the world that I criticize so much, and I think starting with our youth is the right place to start. That is why when I first heard about Istanbul&I and its mission, I knew I wanted to be involved. Istanbul&I’s youth for youth approach is very captivating and it aligns with my belief that only by empowering one another can we succeed.
What truly stood out to me when I first started volunteering at Istanbul&I was how much trust the Executive Board had in me. Their trust helped me trust myself and further excel in what I was doing. It is such a collaborative and cultivating environment to work in. Thanks to this wonderful organization I have grown beyond what I could have imagined. I will forever be grateful for the friends, mentors, and support system that I have found at Istanbul&I.
